Yoga is hugely beneficial for children of all ages and helps support their physical and mental health, as well as boosting their emotional well-being.

Physical Benefits

From a physical point of view, it helps with their flexibility and strength.  For younger children in particular, weight bearing activities such as standing or balancing postures can also help to increase their bone density which is great for growing bones. Another great benefit of yoga is teaching children about balance as this is a key element for children to help them learn co-ordination skills as well as awareness and control of their bodies.

Mental Benefits

In terms of mental health benefits, these are wide ranging and yoga is known to support positive mental health in both adults and children.  It helps teach children about concentration and by maintaining their attention throughout the class this helps them to learn to take this into other areas of their life.


Children’s emotional well-being is an important part of them growing up to be balanced adults. Through all of the elements of the practice it helps children become more self-aware and it helps them not only with their own self-acceptance but also it helps them learn about acceptance of others by knowing not everyone is the same.
